The perfect love story

Wine is alive in Tuscany. And it is also alive at Il Desco, Bistrot of the Hotel Il Guelfo Bianco, located in the historical centre of Florence, where we have created our selection of wines that have been sourced from excellent small local wineries.

The relationship between Tuscany and wine is integrated with the whole culture and history of the region, which is enhanced above all by the red grape vine varieties: a quarter‐litre or a wicker bottle of wine has always had to be on the dining table. Wine flows in the veins of the region, from the famous areas of the Chianti Classico and Chianti Rufina, located between Siena and Florence, through to Val D’orcia, Moltancino and Montepulciano, to the coast of the excellent Bolgheri.

 

A story the wine producers keep telling year after year, producing high quality wines with passion and care in order to offer a product which is a lot more natural and respectful of the earth.

A passion and a vision that is reflected also in the philosophy of Il Desco:

” Here we choose mainly small producers of organic and biodynamic wines that will also enhance our menu, which is chosen and updated seasonally and based on the Mediterranean organic Tuscan cuisine.”

But we mustn’t forget to mention the Tuscan white wines: Vernaccia, Vermentino and Ansonica, the latter being a traditional wine from the Elba Island. Finally, a special mention goes to a rosé wine which is a 100% Sangiovese, produced with the same red grapes as those of the Chianti. It is a wine which is made 15km away from Florence and we keep choosing it because it maintains the flavour of the Sangiovese even if it’s more delicate and light and it doesn’t lose the flavour of the red fruits.
