‘IL CONTENZIOSO’ BY RANALDI IN OUR ART HOTEL IN FLORENCE CENTER!
Min. readingA massive picture and a valuable artwork.
In Italian the word “contenzioso” means “controversy”, so it doesn’t really sum up anything positive. Luckily for us it actually represents something very positive: the addition of a new work of art joining our collection in our hotel in Florence, Il Guelfo Bianco!
Two large white canvases on which the hand of an artist out of the box such as Renato Ranaldi stands out even more, enhancing the tridimensional quality of the work, thanks to a great technique developed on an artistic path that has coursed its way throughout Italy and abroad.
Active since the Sixties, Ranaldi has a mind full of imagination that likes to flip the status quo on its head, giving life, on canvas, through installations or using different materials, to the concept of ‘hanging in the balance’: the elements of his work are placed in a precarious position in order to really grasp your attention.
“Contenzioso” faithfully mirrors this element of risk, by including two separate canvases that are physically linked together with colour. Between the pure white of the canvases, this mixture of vivid colours, one on the other, creates a necessary trait d’union hanging in the space for which the two canvases are competing.
Even though this work contains the concept of precariousness and expresses the competition for colour, it never makes us feel uncomfortable. On the contrary, its originality and its large dimensions (it is eleven centimeters wide) had a very pleasant effect on us and won us over.
Once me and my wife had both decided that we liked the picture, our own compulsory requirement to buy an artwork, the only doubt we had was where to put such a large work in our hotel. It wouldn’t fit into any of the rooms, for sure, and we were even struggling to find a place for it in the hall of the hotel.
Suddenly, the solution: our restaurant, Il Desco Bistrot, would be the new house of the “Contenzioso”. After a recent restoration that made our restaurant even more beautiful and cozy, the space is much wider and the atmosphere is just right for the dimensions and shades of colour of this picture.
Satisfied to have another amazing contemporary artist with us, and a Florentine one at that, allow me a little bit of parochialism, with great humor and pleasure I invite you to come to Florence for the weekend! I am sure no controversy or anything “contenzioso” will arise, while we chat and drink a good wine in front of our “Contenzioso”.
I hope to see you soon,
